thedocumentation is a blog dedicated to recording international happenings in the realm of contemporary art, inspired by and beginning with a 100-day log and investigation of the dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel, Germany. The documenta is a contemporary art exhibition taking place every five years in Kassel. The exhibition combines visual and performing arts through installations, theatre, film, music, and gallery exhibits.
thedocumentation will feature established as well as emerging artists, exhibition reviews, and interviews with art world participants.
Beyond the Kassel exhibition itself, this blog seeks to better understand the function of art as a documentation of memory and as the product of the human inclination to self-explain and self-preserve. thedocumentation will delve into the ways in which art reflects a translation of self communicated through visual language.
thedocumentation is written by myself, Milena Berman. I am based in San Francisco, California and graduated with a degree in Art History from the College of Charleston in South Carolina. For the dOCUMENTA (13), I lived and worked in Kassel, Germany.
